Del.icio.us!

On the KCRag forum, there are already people complaining about parking for the Sprint Center . These people have no problems parking the equivelant of 10 blocks away at Kauffman stadium or Arrowhead but post how it will be an issue to walk 3 blocks from a garage to the Sprint Center. They cite issues such as fear from a family of 4 walking to Disney on Ice.

Is there anything more humorous than people not familiar with downtwon moaning about parking? Anybody with any knowledge of downtown knows parking is more abundant than anything downtown. Not to mention two HUGE parking garages were just built underneath the Power & Light district just for this reason. Parking is honestly the last concern for anybody coming downtown for an event at the Sprint Center.

People will be parking all over these garages for events at the Sprint Center...it won't be this scary empty urban area that some are trying to make it out to be.

The best part of these people's posts is these are the same ones that whine about KCMO screwing up by renovating Kauffman instead of building a downtown baseball stadium. Where do these people think fans going to a downtown baseball stadium would park....answer? In these same parking garages blocks away that they are whining about parking at for the Sprint Center.

People. It's time to get familiar with downtown...it's not the same as the one you remember from the time you attended the Auto Show in 1994. There are shops, residents, restaurants, and attractions open or to be open when you are attending your next event at the Sprint Center. The 3 block (max) walk you'll be taking won't be a scary experience if you are unfamiliar with downtown, it will be an eye opening experience to how much downtown has changed. Heck, go pick up some ice cream with your kids beforehand....they will remember these experiences forever. I can still remember some of my first visits to downtown....great memories.

PumpkinStalker,
All good points. I think everyone should stop at a place called Tropicana on Southwest Blvd just west of Broadway to get a little something called "Escha Mocha." I'm sure I butchered the spelling, but thankfully they have a picture of it on the wall I just point to. Then go find a parking space, then go to the event. Agreed, the kids will remember it forever.

Guest User,
Probably JoCo's that think there are "Negroes" waiting to attack them downtown.

San Francisco Sue,
I walk several times a week from Crown Center to the Sprint Center, P&L District and beyond (new ball room for the convention center--amazing). PEOPLE get out of your cars and off your butts and see for yourselves what a vibrant and exciting city that is taking shape.

KCKDeadManWalking,
2 weeks ago I walked from my house in KCK to the Sprint Center Arena construction site. It was about 5 miles and took me 2 hours. Walking 3 blocks from a parking garage is nothing by comparison.

DowntownHoward,
Has anyone taken a closer look at the new streetlights selected for downtown around the H&R Block headquarters? What is with the big ugly bolts sticking up out of the bottom?

Guest User,
I don't understand why anyone would be worried about parking. The town pavillion has a large parking garage katty-corner from the Sprint center, and part of the power and light district has a four or fivel level garage under it.
